ARROW & BOLT SHAFT SPINE INDEX ALIGNMENT.
ARROW & BOLT SHAFT SPINE INDEX ALIGNMENT.
Almost every arrow and crossbow bolt shaft on the market has a spot around the circumference of the arrow/bolt that is thicker than the rest. This results in that spot being stiffer than the rest of the arrow and is referred to as the "spine" of the arrow/bolt. The spine of your arrow/bolt has a large part to do with the way your arrow or bolt comes off of your string and the direction it travels. Using a special device, we can find this "spine" of your arrow/bolt, mark it, and align the vanes and nocks on all your arrow and bolts consistently to this one spot, insuring that you have a custom batch of arrows/bolts that have the utmost uniformity from arrow to arrow and bolt to bolt resulting in a consistent launch off of your bow or crossbow string every time. This process may not be crucial to some archers, but should not be ignored by archers looking for the top performance and consistency from their arrows and crossbow bolts.
- Arrow and bolt shaft spine index alignment is a process where the arrow/bolt shaft is spun in a device where pressure is applied to the centre of the arrow/bolt shaft. A dial indicator provides a readout of how much flex is occurring in the arrow/bolt as the arrow/bolt is rotated in the device. We then determine, by observing the dial indicator needle position while the arrow/bolt shaft is being rotated; where the stiffest side of the arrow/bolt located. The stiffest side of the arrow is then marked, and the arrow/bolt is then fletched with the cock vane aligned with the stiffest side of the arrow/bolt.
